I was born and raised in a rural area in Jalisco, México. At the age of ten, my mother immigrated to Salinas, California, with the clothes on her back and her two young children. Coming to a new country was a challenge. Nonetheless, in a few years, I was able to adapt and learn a new language, culture, and style of living. My bi-cultural experience has taught me to respect different cultures and personalities that I encounter on a daily basis. My interest in medicine was sparked in high school during health class. We were watching the video of “The Birth”. As the baby was delivered, all I could think of was, what a miracle. A few years later, I witnessed a live birth. From that moment on, my goal is to one-day deliver babies. SCOPE will provide me with an opportunity to gain clinical experience and support my goal to pursue medicine. In addition, SCOPE will provide me with an outlet to effectively help members of my community who need language assistance while visiting the emergency room.
