I was born in Mexico, brought to the United States when I was 3 years old and raised in East San Jose. At an early age I saw how there was a great need for more doctors that spoke Spanish. In particular doctors who would be willing to be part of in helping patients that did not have the economic resources needed to obtain medical care. This is what increased my appetite for wanting to be a doctor and serve this population. However, my dreams of becoming a doctor were shot down when I was unable to afford to go to a 4 year university, since I had to provide for my family by working two jobs. In efforts to some day still make my dream of being a doctor come true I would take classes whenever time permitted, but that was also short lived. Ten years later I went back to school and earned a B.S. in psychology, which helped me understand that I have a passion for caring for others and that it was not too late to be a doctor. S.C.O.P.E. will help me by being able to move in the direction of my vision and goals of being a doctor and helping those in greatest need.
