I was born in a small town in Mexico right on the outskirts of Acapulco and moved to the United States when I was 6 years old. The main reasons that contribute to my interest and desire for medicine is a combinations of a few factors: the professionals that work in the health field who have helped me dearly, both physically and psychologically is one of the main reasons. The other reason is the importance and need for physicians in underserved countries – being back home in Mexico has allowed me to experience this need first hand.
SCOPE will allow me the opportunity to see first hand what some physicians do and encounter day to day. It will give me a sense of direction also in the type of physician I will want to become while giving me insight on patient-physician and situations. Furthermore, the situations the physician encounters will allow me the opportunity to critically think of my own ways of handling similar things, and in a way to start thinking like a physician.
