I was born and raised in San Jose, CA in a particularly rough neighborhood. Growing up a white coat was never on my mind–college wasn’t even something I knew about. As a first generation Mexican-American, finishing high school was most important in my parents’ eyes. Graduating college has been one of my greatest accomplishments, and during my time there I realized the immense opportunities that come from having an education. Through various experiences after college I realized that medicine could be a path for me. I began on this journey to medical school and have not looked back. SCOPE will be a place where my decision to pursue medicine will be further confirmed. I hope that my work at SCVMC will improve my medical Spanish, and broaden my clinical experience. With the aim of one day becoming a physician in a similar hospital and community.
