My interest in medicine did not from a single life defining moment but from a culmination of experiences. As an undergraduate, I was involved with a lab that researched possible cures and treatments for multiple sclerosis. Even though I knew that my work may have a significant impact later in the future, I wanted my work to have a more immediate impact. Volunteering at a clinic that teaches karate to children with special needs helped guide me towards my decision to pure medicine because I was able to see first hand how beneficial and important the patient-doctor interaction alone can be in improving the health of the patients. Through SCOPE I hope I will gain the experience and knowledge needed to one day become a great physician.
