Being raised in Argentina and Brazil allowed me to see the world through different lenses. During my early teenage years I volunteered at low-income neighborhoods of Brazil, which created a desire for a career in medicine, especially after witnessing malnourished children and social injustice. Overtime, I developed an increasing desire for providing healing to people mentally, physically and spiritually, which drove me to combine theology and medicine. Today, I am an intern chaplain at Central Pacific Medical Center, providing spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and health care providers. While my goal is to pursue a career in integrative medicine as a physician who embraces all these aspects, SCOPE has an important mission on portraying the physician’s role as a healer in the fast paced environment of the ER. As a Spanish medical interpreter I was exposed to medical procedures, and that helped me enlarge my medical vocabulary and better understand the role of a physician.
